I saw these Black Cockatoos while driving with friends just outside Nelson Bay. They couldn't have been in a better setting, they are such amazing birds, with their glossy plumage and dashes of colour, the stark pale dead trees were perfect.

I saw this Darter on a Yellow Water Cruise in Kakadu. He - She, was everything I was looking for to paint, I couldn't believe my luck. The colours, the texture. The way He - She was perched on this excellent nest, clear from anything else. Looked quite precarious, must have been a good builder.

Kookaburras were known as "Hawkesbury Clock" to the early settlers. Many didn't own a time piece and would rely on their early morning and late afternoon calling or laughing. They are a lovely looking bird, quite substantial and family orientated.

I entered the first and only James Hardie Wildlife Art Award, with watercolour of two black ducks. I had just moved house, I came home from the framers, unwrapped the painting placed it on the floor on the paper leaning on the wall. My male cat Babe obviously wasn't impressed by the move and attempted to pee on the painting. Luckily he wasn't on target. Two for a Duck went on to win the Status Stamp Award, part of the James Hardie Award.
