Property of Bob Watson
When I first met Bob Watson he was a fashion model, his face was everywhere, now he's a fashion photographer. When Bob agreed to sit for me for Archibald, we decided to incorporate that early part of his life into the Portrait. We chose to use a photo of him, that was the first centrefold ever published in Spain after Franco was deposed. To convey the feeling of a past era, I painted the centrefold in the background as a fading painting itself, cracked and chipped. In the foreground, Bob as he is today, sitting on a Wooden orange box, camera in hand. I called the Portrait "In Retrospect."
I overheard a conversation between an elderly couple who were studying the portrait at the Archibald exhibition. They were amused by what they perceived to be the "homosexual" theme of the portrait, and a lot of "tutting" was going on. My meaning, (despite the title of the painting) was lost on them.

Property of Sarah Key
Former Physio to the Royal Family, Sarah has written several books on the subject. During the breaks between sittings, she would be flat on her back on the tiles relaxing, in readiness for the next 20 mins.
I haven't seen Sarah for along time. When I first met her she was so passionate about what she did, she would be so excited telling you all about a Disc or another part of the anatomy, how it worked, and how it could heal. It was wonderful listening to her, and knowing she would heal you. She certainly had a gift for it.

Property of John Adams
I had always painted in silence – except for the odd interruptions from my dogs, until John Adams. The only way I could get him to sit still for more than five minutes, was to allow him to watch the Olympics. He loved the whole spectacle of it, so was quite happy. I painted John in his very contemporary home in Palm Beach, set amongst an abundance of trees, with superb water views. John's favourite trees, the Angophora Gum, were growing at the edge of the expansive terrace. The Angophora featured in the background, along with a 200 year old wooden Ceylonese statue, known as a House Minder, hence the tiitle The Master and The Minder. The Portrait was hung in The Portia Geach Portrait Prize for Women Portrait Painters only.
Vic Rooney, his Portrait and Kris
We breezed through two portraits and didn't draw breath, or rather Vic didn't. He would recite poetry, burst forth with lines from a play, and shake with laughter when recounting some hysterical story, involving his actor mates and their various antics. Vic was a wonderful man, who sadly is no longer with us. He was married to the Actress / Singer / Entertainer, Chelsea Brown.

We have the somewhat wacky sense of humour of this lovely Lady, who would wend her way down the stairs of her palatial residence, take up her position and present herself to me with eyes crossed, or different hair, or different makeup, or all of the above.
It was a lot of fun, the Portrait was for Archibald, and we were hung.

Property of Sir Laurence, and Lady Penny Street
The wonderful sittings with Sir Laurence, I have never drunk so much tea! We would break for lunch and eat hamburgers from his favourite place, served on fine china with crisp white napkins.
Some nights if we worked late, we would finish at sunset, and I would be overlooking the Conservatorium of Music and listening to fascinating tales of Sydney, old Sir Henry Parkes, and the world generally. Sir Laurence is a lovely man and very entertaining.
